This callsign server was set up at the University at Buffalo by Devon Bowen,
KA2NRC, to allow ham operators with Internet access to quickly find other
hams without having to spend hours flipping through a paper callbook. The
server currently allows search by callsign, last name, city or zip code.
The database for this server is based on the FCC (US) tapes acquired by
Rusty Carruth, N7IKQ, and a DOC (Canada) database obtained by Alan Paeth,
VE3AWP, WA3YOK. The US portion of this database has no clubs. It is hoped
that there will be updates to this database often so the information here
will be as useful as possible to everyone. Present data is current as of
October 1990.
For information about the commands for this server use the "help" command.
Control-U or Control-X deletes the current line, Control-W deletes the current
word and Control-H or DELETE erase a character. If a parameter needs to be
two words, double quotes may be used around the parameter to include the
spaces.
Filters are available for filtering out specific data from your searches.
This greatly reduces network traffic and allows you to get only the data you
need so you don't have to go fishing through it all. Filters are set up by
putting a hyphen before the filter name and following that filter name with
a regular expression (for more info on regular expressions, see the Berkeley
Unix manual section for regcomp). All items found on the search must be
accepted by that regular expression to be printed. For example, the command
city -f ^d -l ^b -s ny buffalo
would list all the people with with initials DB in Buffalo, NY.
If you're interested in contributing to maintaining the database, please
contact Rusty Carruth, N7IKQ, at rusty@cadnetix.UUCP. Monetary donations are
really needed to keep this server available.
If you have bug reports or suggestions mail to bowen@cs.buffalo.edu. 73...
